Safer Internet Quiz
Social media and Fake news

Tips and Quizzes for recognizing fake news and using social media more responsibly

Why it might be relevant for me?

Almost everyone today uses social media. And you probably know this situation: You just want to relax for a few minutes. So, you grab your phone and start scrolling. At first, it feels fun. But after a while, it becomes exhausting. One second you see a young football player living his “perfect life” — fancy trips, expensive clothes, huge success. Then suddenly a politician pops up saying life is getting way too expensive. Next video: a shocking clip from a war zone — crying children, injured people. And right after that… some random post claiming a giant megalodon shark ate someone near Brazil. Your brain jumps from one extreme to another in seconds.
Social media often pushes the most extreme, emotional, and shocking content. It shows strong opinions, stereotypes, and dramatic stories — because that’s what gets attention. But that also makes it harder to know what’s actually true. What information is real? Which posts are trying to influence your opinion? And where is someone trying to manipulate you?
Fake news, heated comment sections, and constant bad news can easily lead to stress, anxiety, and mistrust. That’s why it’s important to understand how social media works. When you learn to question what you see online and think critically about the content you consume, you protect yourself.
Using social media in a more mindful way helps you avoid manipulation — and protects your mental health.
